Smoochin’ in Maastricht
Our apologies, Maastricht-ians.
We don’t normally act this way, and subject an unknowing population to such antics. (This blog notwithstanding), we are typically quite private people, especially when it comes to showing affection in public.
But we just couldn’t help it. We admittedly may have been a bit too smoochie-woochie when strolling through your streets recently.
I blame two things for this.
Number one – We are a couple of short weeks away from our tenth wedding anniversary, and perhaps we got swept up in the romance of it a wee bit early.
Number two – Have you looked around at your beautiful city lately? Have you seen the way the fading sunlight lights up your beautiful plazas in perfect gold and pink hues, how your city sparkles after dark with candlelit tables, fresh flowers and lively conversation? The leaves are just beginning to turn and fall, adding color to the shining grey cobblestone streets.
Your city makes it quite impossible not to fall a little in love with it, and a little deeper with each other.
At least you don’t seem to mind our displays of affection, and instead have helped us celebrate our love by giving us special moments to cherish. When Pete and I stopped on a bridge to share a smooch while gazing out at the water, one of your riverboat captains, dozens of feet below, honked his horn directly at us. Startled, we looked down and saw him wagging his finger at us, as if we were being naughty, but with an enormous, joyous smile on his face. We laughed, and went right back to smoochin’.
And then when we sat on the patio of a quiet cafe, a sweet woman carrying a toddler caught us again mid-smooch. She gave a quick wink when she passed by, causing Pete to blush.
You made us feel like giddy school kids, excited to be on a first date in one of the most romantic little cities we’ve ever been to. After ten years of marriage, it doesn’t get much better than that.
Awww, you two are so romantic and adorable. Isn’t it funny how some places just make you want to be affectionate even more than usual?
We seem to find that in a lot places around Europe! 🙂
Love your post!!! Happy Anniversary! Looking forward to more posts of you!
Thanks Sebastian!
Happy Anniversary:)
Have a fabulous week ahead:)
Thanks Arti – I promise all our upcoming posts won’t be about kissing… 🙂
What, no pictures? 😉
Happy anniversary!
Of us smoochin’, you mean? I never think of it! Too caught up in the smooch, I guess… 🙂
This post made me smile 🙂 Happy almost-anniversary!
Thanks Emily! We like to celebrate things for more than just the actual day!
Aaaaw, that’s so cute. Happy anniversary! Here’s for more smooch-fest years ahead!
Thank you! We hope to be smoochin’-woochin’ for many more! 🙂
Geez. Get a room you two. 🙂
Sorry guys. I promise that all our posts for the next couple of weeks won’t be about this. 🙂
Adorable. 🙂 I love the way cities bring out the inner romantic/smoocher in people. Happy almost anniversary!
Thanks Diana! Maastricht had plenty of romance for everyone. We were doomed to be smoochin’ for three straight days!
Awwwwwwwwwww! Happy 10th!
Thanks Dyanne! That seems like such a long time… 🙂
Ah – smooch away for your anniversary!
Happy 10th anniversary guys. You should try and get away to celebrate!
Haha!! We actually DID get away (from the routine?)…that post is to come… 🙂
Went to in Maastricht for a meeting years ago and have returned many times. Lovely city. Happy anniversary!
Positively uplifting. Keep traveling, lovebirds!
Haha this is adorable!
I think I’ve been in Latin America too long because I wouldn’t have even noticed you two making out in the streets.
Oh yeah – we would have fit right in there! Ha! Will remember that for our next anniversary, and then maybe less people will honk at us! 🙂
Yes, needs more smoochiepics! And congrats. 🙂
Awwwwwwwwww. To be in love is the most beautiful of emotions.
Thanks Mom! 🙂
Good to know that there are still long-term couples out there that are so much in love. Maastricht is probably smiling at the two of you. Here’s to many more smoochin’ in the years ahead 🙂
Thanks so much Sherry! I hope they were smiling, at least no one seemed to mind terribly. I probably would have been making fun of us – ha!
Aww, ten years – Happy anniversary guys. If that’s not a good reason for a few public displays of smooching, then I don’t know what it is!
Thanks Cherina! After ten years, I’m happy to be with someone that I still like to smooch! 🙂
How cute. It’s a lovely city (when it’s not raining, which isn’t often in Northern Europe!)
Happy tenth, I’m on my way to my 7th!
Congrats Federico – wishing you many, many more! 🙂
Congrats on the anniversary. The smooching however has got to go. 🙂
I’m sorry for offending. 🙂
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
That is all 😉
Awwwwwwwww…..
Just…. Awwwww…..

I’m not exaggerating when I say that you two are pretty much the main reason I believe in marriage and true love… This post made me SO happy! I love your love!

You make it sound good 🙂 I’d say look – but you didn’t include a pic of the two of you …
I havn’t been to Maastricht yet… I want to! I hear it is a good place to go for carnival.
Aaww, seriously… happy anniversary. May you have more smoochie years ahead. (We’re going on our 29th year ourselves and yes, we still smooch.) Hope you get that far too.
Glad to know that the smoochin’ is still alive for the Easy Hikers! 🙂 I hope we make it that far as well! 🙂
